RE: Pic of new 5er

Don't forget to take turns a little wider since 5ers cut in a litttle closer to the curbs. MIke

RE: Clear up my ignorance......

OKay people you forgot a very inportant function -- you can't walk into or bump into the kingpin. I don't have a stabilizer and when I am down getting something from the basement storage, I came close a few times to wacking my head on the kingpin. Mike

RE: Is a fifth wheel easier to tow than a travel trailer?

I'd like to add something about the rails in the bed, I take my hitch out after every camping trip, I have rails, but I just put in 3/4 inch plywood in between the rails and a 3/4 inch rubber mat and no one knows the rails are even there. I have full use of my bed. I don't know how much of a price difference there is with the under bed hitch, but there are alternatives MIke

RE: Fifth Wheel Backing Up

I may be the only one, but I use my rear view mirror since it is in the center of my truck and I line up the pin and the hitch and just back up. I don't have a tool chest or anything that blocks the way. This also helps me to remember that if I didn't lower my tail gate yet I'll see it right away. Mike

RE: Slider Hitch??

Okay I may be the only one, but i don't have a slider, and I have been pulling my trailer for 6 years now. Yes a slider is a nice thing to have and since you have a larger trailer you may want to get one. Since mine is only 25' with a extended pin, I didn't need one. Mike

RE: 2 minutes of Hot Water

I normally only have the electric on for normal hot water use, but I turn on the gas with the elctric just before and while I am taking a shower, it seems to give me a little longer supply of hot water. Mike

RE: Towing Set-Up

I always cringe when people say "you have to go with a slider with a short bed" You don't need to go with a slider. I have a 3/4 Chev HD with the 6 1/2 bed and an extended pin and I have been just fine for the last 6 years. Many people get a slider just in case and many don't use it much. I don't get my trailer into anything close to a 90 degreee turn when I am towing or backing. I am careful when I am backing. It's insurance in case you get stuck in a tight spot, So if you want to pay the extra money for a slider then go for it. B.T.W I have a 16k reeese and my trailer is 9200lbs loaded. Mike

RE: extended pin box question

LIke others that replied, I have an extended pin, short bed (6 1/2) and no slider. But one thing you must decide is will you ever change your trailer, You may need one for a different trailer and you may have to add it later. if not, just be careful when backing up and you'll be fine. Mike

Washing the trailer

I was curious, when do you usually wash your trailer? Do you do it before you leave for a trip so you have a clean trailer while camping, or do you wash it after the trip to get all the bugs and stuff off. Or Both? It seems strange to wash it just before you store your trailer since it does get dirty while sitting there. Thanks Mike

TV Reception

Hi all, I just went out last weekend on my first camping trip of '08. and it occured to me that with this new digital (DTV) signal coming in FEB '09 I may have to get a converter for my trailer. I have been ignoring the information about this since I have cable at home, but I didn't think about the trailer until this weekend. I know a lot of you have dishes, but those that don't, have you thought about what you are going to do? Mike

RE: 24ft to 26ft 5er,am i wasting my money???

I'm amazed about some people saying that rving isn't really camping. I started with two different tent trailers and now I"m in a 25 foot fifth and really unless you are in a tent I think the expirence is the same. I do the same things when I am camping, hikes, fishing, camp fires, the tent trailer, Travel trailer, fifth, or motor home is just a place to sleep. You can still cook on a camp stove, you can do all the nature stuff you want. So go out and find a trailer you want and will fit your truck and enjoy camping. MIke

RE: 5th Wheel Leveling Questions

I agree, You can just have a couple of pieces of wood of different thicknesses but unless you boondock most camp sites are fairly level. Mike

RE: Houston, we have a problem

Okay this probably happens to everyone at least once. It happened to me in my storage lot luckly, watch the line to the emergency brake for your trailer. it got caught on my hitch handle once and pulled out the emergency brake when I was trying to back into my stall. That stops the trailer fast and it won't budge and you think you hit something. Scared the stuffing out of me until I figured out what happened and then I laughed about it. Mike

RE: looking for 3-4 season brands 24-25 long

Shoing, As you can see I have the exact package you are thinking about The 245n is perfect for us, And we have no trouble towing it over the mountains here is washington. B.T.W. We got the free standing dining table and are glad we did, i think it gives you a littlee more room. But one thing to notice is even though Arctic Fox's are heavier trailers, if you look at the numbers they give you lots of leeway between trailer weight and max weight. The gross dry weight is 7120 and the carry capacity is 2880 to get to the max weight of 10,000. So the question is how much "stuff" will you be loading into the trailer. Mike

RE: new to 5ers

kklaus121, I have the exact same truck as you and I own an Arctic Fox trailer, they are not light trailers. Mine is probably around 9000 loaded. I do fine pulling my trailer over our passes here in Wa. Your truck can handle it -- but I would not push much higher than the 10,000 max of the truck. Mike

When do ou wash the trailer

I know this is a summer question, but since I am already thinking of spring and camping I thought I'd ask now. Do you wash your trailer before you travel so it's clean and nice looking during your camping trip, or do you wash it after to get all the dirt and bugs off right away when you get back. Or maybe both. Thanks Mike
